I’m a first time chicken owner. I rescued a hen 21 weeks ago and she has been doing well. I introduced a pair of siblings to her and she asserted her dominance but they eventually got along. Come to find out one of the pair is a rooster and he’s starting to try and assert his dominance to my original hen.The problem is my hen isn’t backing down and i saw peck marks on her head this morning. She seems scared of him but still won’t back down. Should i seperate them or see if they work it out? I just don’t want any of them to get hurt.

Do you only have these 3 chickens? The cockerel sounds like he's trying to mate and she's not interested. Cockerels typically mature faster than pullets. If you only have these 3, you may want to consider rehoming the male. He needs more than 2 ladies to mate and can easily harm them from over-mating. The male to female ratio ratio is a hot topic on BYC. Personally, I wouldn't have less than 10 females to 1 male. Some people say 8-1. Some say no rooster at all is the perfect number.
