Hi, we have a free range flock of 5-2yr old hens, 4-1yr olds;1 roo & 3 hens, 3-6 month olds; 2 Roos & 1 hen. One of the 6 month old roos Rusty took over the flock from Joey the 1 year old roo, he didn’t seem to mind. I did see both 6 month old Roos Rusty & Cloud (Cloud who was much smaller than Rusty) sparring now and again. I went out yesterday and found Cloud dead. He was caught in the perimeter fencing the back of his neck was missing its feathers and most of his underneath was eaten away. Would/could Rusty have done that?

It wasn't your other rooster. Likely a coon.

Thank you. We had an issue with coons last spring. It didn’t eat any of the flock, just ripped some heads off. The most horrific thing I have ever seen. I thought we have preventative measures against them now.
