Hello!
My almost 3-year-old Buff Orpington rooster is acting different, and I noticed that his comb looks floppy as well as purply/gray in some spots. There has been a sudden temperature drop in my area so maybe that is why, (it is now getting down to 18 degrees at night and around 35 during the day.) They have a heat lamp in their coop and have free access to go in the coop and out to the pasture. Today when I went out, I noticed that he was standing off to the side of the hens while I gave them scraps and did not seem interested. His head was kind of pushed down in his neck and I could tell something was off. I will add some pictures of him and his comb. He has never had any health problems, and he is my only rooster. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Here are some pictures of him.

I have 4 good sized windows but I keep them closed during the winter and I also keep the main human door closed to keep the heat from the lamp inside. The small chicken door is the only thing open to the air and that is closed for 8 hours every night. If it is frostbite would it affect his behavior like this?

Possible he may have a touch of frostbite, but hard to tell.

The purple/gray could indicate lack of oxygen. I'd check him over for lice/mites, check to make sure his crop is emptying overnight.

What's his poop like? When was he last dewormed?

What do you feed, including treats?

Symptoms you describe sounds more like he's not well instead of suffering from Frostbite.

Thank you for all your help. He passed away this morning when I went out to the coop. He was acting normal on Monday so whatever it was it came on fast and I guess there wasn't anything I could've done to prevent it. I will do some research on how to treat my hens for worms or other parasites just in case.

This is the best place to ask questions, to save you some time.

I feed them all layer pellets which they always have access to, and I give them a mix of mealworms, black-oiled sunflower seeds, and oyster shells once a day as a treat. Is there any reason why these foods could cause sickness? I was not able to check his crop or his poop before he died.
