Rotten Eggs Store Bought vs Fresh Eggs

All my life I’ve only had store bought eggs until I got my own chickens and I have NEVER seen a rotten egg.

Now I have chickens I see all kinds of anomalies I have never seen, I’ve had rotten eggs and blood spots.

How do store bought eggs get to so old and last so long without any of that?

I stored them in my fridge out of habit but I’ve started letting them stay on the counter if I don’t have room. And I don’t wash them.
 
It takes time for an egg to truly rot. If you gather them daily you shouldn't get a rotten egg from your hens. But if you miss one somehow and it sits in the coop for a couple of weeks, yeah .... you'll end up with a rotten one. By rotten do you mean it explodes and stinks up your house?

Eggs at the store have been candled to look for things like blood spots, so you almost never see them in the cartons you buy. Eggs with blood spots are still safe to eat. I've heard they get sold to places like bakeries (a blood spot will never be noticed in a chocolate cake!)

I've had home-raised eggs last a long time, just like eggs from the store.
The only real difference I notice is in things like blood spots, that aren't in the cartons I buy from the store but are in some home-raised eggs.

I've always stored my eggs in the fridge, whether they come from the store or from hens of my own. The exception is eggs I might want to hatch: those get stored at room temperature until I put them in the incubator, or until I decide to eat them anyway.

I don't think I've stored eggs at room temperature for more than two or maybe three weeks. I know I've stored eggs in the fridge for much longer than that, with no problems. Usually the home-raised eggs have not been washed when I store them, but that's because it's easier to put them away without stopping to wash them. Eggs that are really dirty do get washed because I want them cleaner. I'm not convinced that washed vs. unwashed makes enough difference for me to change my habits either direction.

Store bought eggs are candled to remove ‘imperfections' like meat or blood spots. The chickens still lay eggs with blood spots, the eggs are just not sold.
No never had that.

What do you mean by rotten eggs?
