Hi all, looking for a bit of insight here. I have a small flock of six mixed breed chickens. I have noticed that the Black Australorps and Speckled Sussex (some, not all) have kind of pale looking combs with some having minor scabs and some having a bit of white discoloration.

All the girls seems to be acting totally fine (active) as well as eating and drinking normally despite their somewhat rough looking combs. I live in Massachusetts and we had some cold days this winter. I do also put down First Saturday Lime in the coop (white discoloration?). They do not seem to have any other health concerns and I have checked for signs of any lice or mites, of which there are none (even checked them with a magnifying loop).

They are just about a year old. Does this look normal? Appreciate the thoughts, thank you.

I think this might be moderate frostbite! I’m in upstate New York and unfortunately one of my polish has some mild frostbite on her wattles that look similar to the white patches on your birds. There were some brutal days this past winter here in the northeast.

Someone with more knowledge, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
