Hi everyone. We got a Salmon Faverolle pullet, Cora, through a local store from a hatchery back in the beginning of May (she's approximately 11 weeks old now). She has been walking around all extended like our roosters do and her coloring is kind of dark, which makes me question if she is really a she. I have read that some of the hatchery pullets/hens can just have "bad" coloring and I'm not sure if that is the case here or not. Could you help me out?

She kept extending her neck and making small noises. It didn't really sound like any crowing to me (this is my first year with chickens, although my husband has more experience than I do), but her stance did appear that she was attempting to crow.

Thank you for any help you might be able to give me! :)

The comb is a lighter pink, not as dark as my older birds that are roosters (they are different breeds). It's not an EE though. The legs are feathered and the very light color that Salmon Faverolles and like Speckled Sussex and such have. Also, she/he has 5 toes. Quite small too.

Did you get her from Meyer? I know theyve been throwing dark hens, not salmon colored at all. So, that may be the case now that I look at her. There is another thread about a Sam fav, and she is the color of yours. But that tail seems wrong.

Yeah, the tail really makes me question as well. Also, her/his behavior lately.

The store we got most of our chickens from is called Wilco. They're a farm store. I don't know the name(s) of the hatchery/hatcheries they work with.

I wouldn't mind a rooster because they are beautiful and I've heard good tempered, but I already have several roosters and I was hoping for a hen and was looking forward to the coloring I had seen in pictures. Still hoping this is really a she, but clearly not the color I was expecting either way.

No problem! Yeah, so far in my short experience, I have found the hatcheries to be unreliable. My Blue Polish, for one example, is not really blue colored. I think he's actually a splash.
