Scared ducklings NEWBIE HERE

I got a call duck and khaki from our local tractor supply Friday. They are 1 week old and super fearful of all humans with feed changes or if we attempt to pet or pick up to clean their cage. What’s the best way to get them to start liking us etc?

Baby birds are afraid of everything. Picking them and holding them several times a day will help very much. If you can hold them in your lap and give treats like lettuce or peas, even better. It may not seem like it is doing much until something scarier happens (moving them to a coop, experiencing wind for the first time, etc) and you find that they run to you for protection.

Most ducks, especially adults, don’t like being handled or pet, so I try to keep both of those very limited. When you must pick them up, go in from the side, as from above can make them think you’re a predator.
Hangout with them lots. Let them climb all over you & snuggle into you. Hand feed them. Talk to them, let them get used to your voice. They’ll come around.
