Hi Florida friends,

LOCATION: Tampa, FL
WILLING TO DRIVE FOR THE RIGHT ADOPTERS.

We are fostering 4 muscovy ducks for a Tampa rescue. We've raised them since April and they are in need of a great home. They would need some type of shelter and to be provided with food and fresh water daily (they've been raised as pets).

We have two males (we call them Raptor and Rudy) and two females (Scrappy Doo and Mr. Burns... don't ask 😂).

We are aware of how difficult it is to place muscovies, especially in Florida where most people consider them a nuisance. We are looking for a safe home where they can live out their lives. They could free range, but we wouldn't recommend housing them with non-muscovy ducks, as the boys are sexually mature and can be a bit rough.

If you're interested or know someone who may be, please send us a message here or via Instagram: @DellyTheDuck

I've also posted this on the FL thread.

Thank you!

PS - I'll get better photos of them.

Oh dear these are feral muscovy but raised as pets. Very difficult to place. I am currently in the UK and will be in Northern Virginia when I get back States side. I do take rescues to rehab and rehome. I try to keep feral muscovy wild so that I can release them on private land with land owners permission. These ducks cannot be released like that.

I suggest you split them into two drakes seeking rehoming and two females seeking rehoming. Or offer one drake separately from the two females and other drake. You might be able to find a duck keeper who will take the two females plus one drake or two females on their own. I do take drakes that cannot be rehomed (my flock is all drakes) but I don't know when I will be home in St Augustine (potentially not until end October)

You should inquire if your local Humane Society or ASPCA foster and find adoptive homes for ducks. Some do. Also see if there are local duck groups on social media where you can advertise these muscovy. Do not use Craig's List as they will go straight into a cooking pot.

And please advertise on the Florida thread on BYC

Thank you so much for the information. I apologize for my delayed response (just had a baby 3 weeks ago and trying to manage my life amongst other things! Lol Apparently the word "schedule" is obsolete). We are looking into some local options for our fostered muscovies. But unfortunately the two males are sexually aggressive with our non-muscovy females and our females are suffering (we've separated them now).

We may have a temporary home for the two males (Raptor and Rudy). Would you possibly be willing to take in both males sometime in October if we can secure a safe home for them until then? We'd be willing to transport them to St. Augustine or nearby, and can bring a bag of food for them (possibly more, if you need).

We'll continue to look for homes for the two females (we may be able to adopt one ourselves, who doesn't fly, as long as the other finds a safe home).

Send me a message if you have a chance. I know rescue is hard and we don't want to put you on the spot at all. I'm continuing to call local farms and businesses with farm land to see if they'd be interested in taking in our rescues. Please do not feel obligated or feel the need to reply - we are just grateful for your advice provided in your previous post.

Let me know what you think. Thank you so much either way.
