First that’s amazing that you’re doing this And making your own way in the world. I sell anything I can get my hands on. Shipping eggs or chickens isn’t really preferred, mostly I would do pick up and if they need shipped that had they have to set it up and pay for that. But any chicks you hatch, sell. It’s baby chick season so get resdy now. And fertile eggs can be eaten and people will hatch them. I have show style mutt chickens, charging 20 a pieceand I’ve gotten that. and never promise results. Chicken genetics are super weird. I had had the same idea and with hard work I’m sure you can get your goal. Good luck

Hi Tyler! In my area of North Florida, it can be pretty profitable to sell started pullets since people like the convenience of knowing they won't end up with roosters and not having to deal with heating a brooder.

There is a local family that buys large quantities of chicks from commercial hatcheries, and then sells them as 8-week-old pullets for $20 each: https://happyheartfarmsfl.com/index.html. Like any business venture, especially one involving live animals, there is risk involved. I know they had to cull some of their chicks due to disease, but they have built a good reputation for selling healthy chicks and the profit margin is still much higher than selling eggs. Their main customers are backyard chicken keepers, so they focus on popular egg-laying breeds. In my area, this is a much larger market than folks interested in specific breeds.

I think it would depend on your area, how bad people want chickens and if they’re allowed. You can sell at pretty much any age, for chicks I would say start at like 8$unless it’s a more “special” breed and you’re a local breeder. For the pullets, 20$ sounds good. Roosters people don’t really want grown up, so you might be killing some of those, but keep the nice looking good quality ones for breeding.

I sell started pullets but the profit margin is only $7-10 each. Pays for my chickens but a far cry from paying for school. I live in the metro Denver area and sell around 50/year. Could easily sell 200+ with a better set up. Figure out what you can sell in your market and who your customers are.
