I'm looking for someone to give me advice on a situation. I've had a next box in for my senegals for at least 2 months now. They laid one egg but then it disappeared. Since then they've mated a lot and stay in the box for a good amount of the day but no more eggs

I really want babies since the parents aren't that friendly. I was told they are proven and male and female. Plus the one thats supposed to be the male is always on top when they mate so I don't doubt they are a pair. I feed fresh fruits and seed with pellets in it. I just want some babies...

Forgot to mention that I've bred AND handfed plenty of birds in the past. The thing with my other birds is stopping them from laying egg not starting them doing it, lol.

Okay I've got some great news I spotted an egg in the nest box today. I'm so nervous that they are going to eat it. They shouldn't start incubating until the second egg is laid and they lay one every two days. Everyone cross your fingers!

Give them plenty of privacy. Since it has been SO LONG since importation was closed, I am assuming these were handfed handraised parrots? If they were raised by their parents, and not handfed out by humans, you have a better chance of them knowing what to do.

Also be aware that senegals can be cannabalistic. We did have pairs that the male was wildcaught and overly aggressive to the female, ending in a bad situation. So we would give them LOTS of privacy and noninterference in the nestbox and just maintain a normal routine with them.

What other parrots have you had success with?

I did other poicephalus, conures, and tiels. But that was in my other life ten years ago.....

Cheers
