Hello all,
We have 8 polish chickens that are a little over 7 weeks old. Six of the chicks (white-crested black, blues, and splashes) are from Cackle Hatchery and two of the chicks (tolbunts) are from a local breeder. Since the tolbunts are bearded I think I'll need to wait a few more weeks and upload more photos to get more accurate guesses on their gender but I included them here just for fun. I've labeled the chicks #1-8 in each of the photos.
#1 - White crested black: My guess is cockerel due to wattles. I won't be thrown off by the neat crest. I've received another white crested black from this same hatchery that started with a neat crest and became untidy a few weeks later. This WCB is the most dominant of the group and is actively challenging the other suspected cockerels.
#2 - White crested blue: Also, guessing cockerel. 2nd most dominant of the group, prominent wattles, and crest is looking untidy
#3 - White crested blue: This one is throwing me for a loop. Seeing a pink coloring on the comb and wattles but no actual wattle growth yet. This white crested blue is adventurous but not as aggressive as the other suspected cockerels. Crest still looks tidy and he/she is the smallest in size of the entire group.
#4 - Splash: Guessing pullet, this splash has the palest wattles/combs and a very tidy crest.
#5 - Splash: Guessing cockerel due to wattles and untidy crest. 3rd most dominant and challenges others often.
#6 - Splash: I'm thinking this is a pullet. Wattles are slightly less pale then the other splash but not by much and the crest is still looking neat.
#7 - Tolbunt: No idea on these tolbunts, I think I'll need to wait a few more weeks for these two. This one is the more adventurous of the two and has a slightly more mohawk-type crest so I'd guess cockerel.
#8 - Tolbunt: By far the most timid of the group, still way too early to know but I'll guess pullet for now
Let me know what you all think!
@JustBabyMargo I could always use an expert opinion
