Shipped quail eggs

For those of you with quail... Is it just a bad idea to use a horizontal egg turner with shipped eggs? What is the best way to incubate shipped quail eggs?

I've used a horizontal egg turner with shipped quail eggs and had good hatch rates. You want to let the eggs rest a day with the air cell up (pointy side down) just in case some of them might've gotten detached air cells, so they might have a chance at getting back to the right spot.

Are these your first quail? Just out of curiosity, why are you going for the whites? I haven't kept any whites, but really like the Jumbo Wild (Pharaoh) type and I think starting with feather sexable quail might be nice, but I think the whites look pretty. If I was hatching more and I could find some jumbo Italians, I would definitely get those since they are feather sexable and I like the Italians a lot.

Good luck with your hatch!

These are my first quail. I want the whites because with chicken.. when you pull feathers and it leaves pin feathers it makes the chicken look more presentable as a dinner bird. I have a child with autism and she's very difficult with food. I need my birds to look as 'normal' and 'store bird' like as I can for her. White pin feathers don't stand out much.

I was wondering if that was a factor. I plucked them a few times, usually skin them now since it's so much easier. I think keeping the skin on, if you can get good at it, definitely adds flavor and a nice look to them. I'm not sure how dark the pin feathers would be on the Italians.

I'm used to plucking chickens so I would guess quail is not hard. The skin adds so much flavor I would hate to remove it.
