So I’m planning to ship 8, 3-4 week old chicks today. It’s my first time shipping live birds. 😬😅
I will be putting shavings in the bottom of the box, I will have a cup of grow gel, a few pieces of apple, a cup of oranges and was planning to put a heat pack on the side…..but now I’m not sure. These chicks have a lot of feathers and will be fairly tight in the box so they will keep each other warm…so heat pad or not??
I’ll post the temperatures in AZ and SC for the next days…
Would really appreciate experienced shippers help! 😅❤️
Thankyou!!!

SC to AZ? I can't imagine that trip would be very short, and for 3 week old birds thats a lot more dangerous than it is for day olds who still maintain some nutrients from the absorbed yolk. At least put actual feed in the box with them so they're getting what they need.

Good luck, though. I hope this can be successful for you and all birds make it to their destination safely.

Thankyou 🙂 Yes they will have feed also…forgot to mention that. Shipping with express so should hopefully take 2-3 days
I think what you have going (Grow gel, apple, and a possible heat pad) will keep them happy and healthy.
I shipped birds in from NC to here (UT) and it was the fastest shipping I've had yet. It was 2 days and I had my birds.

Those shipping boxes hold in a lot of heat, so with 8 birds to huddle up, I think they'll be just fine. :)

I've also had birds shipped from KY, and those were just fine as well.
