Has anyone used duck shoes to prevent frost bite in the winter? If so, how’d it work?
I know they are typically used when curing Bumblefoot and such, but I have a pair of mallards who demand to stay out in the winter and do not want to deal with frostbite.

Ducks have specialized circulatory systems in their feet which helps keep them from freezing in cold weather. They also just pull them up into their feathers to warm them up when they do get cold. Boots for ducks in the winter just aren't necessary. If you are concerned about them wanting to stay out, put out areas of straw for them to stand/lay in on top of snow and ice. That's what I do for my girls and they just love it! My girls actually prefer to stay inside their duck house alot during the winter, but I do get them to be outside for awhile if they have straw paths and straw piles in their yards to hang out on. ;)

My ducks quite happily swim in ice water in the winter. When their feet get cold they "sit" on top of them. We only have a couple weeks a year below freezing, though.

I've used similar boots for bumblefoot before, and had to change them multiple times a day. My duck bobs her head in her water bucket and the water runs down her body and legs and then the inside of her boots would get wet, too. If I left her in the boots all day her feet would be wrinkly and pruny - and so I agree with Miss Lydia that they would probably freeze to the skin. I think your ducks would be much happier with you throwing down some straw for them to rest on.
