Hi, I'm newish to pigeons. I have a pair of Birmingham Rollers who just layed their first egg yesterday evening. They have been together in my small loft for a few months now and I thought they weren't going to lay until next year, but I had a nesting box in there just in case.

I was going to move them to the new loft I just finished this morning, but they layed the egg last night. The small loft is only a couple feet off the ground and the sides are not hardware cloth. I am worried a cat or some other predator will scare them off the nest or maybe try to reach in. The new loft has hardware cloth sides and is a little higher.

The nest is in a container on the ground. The male pigeon is sitting on the egg right now.

So do you think I should move them and the nest to the new loft or not? And if I do move them, should I take away the egg or leave it in the nest? I have to leave for an overnight trip in a couple hours so I need to act fast.
