Hi all,
I have a sick girl (Ellie) in my flock. She is an Easter Egger and roughly 3 years old.
About a week ago noticed runny poo/dirty bum feathers and also know she has not laid an egg in probably 10 days. She has a distinctive darker green that none of my other girls lay.
About that week ago mark additional symptoms (and have been the same since):
-Comb is limp
-Eating feed lightly but not as much as normal. However will pick at a strawberry or tomato and eat some of that.
-Drinks some water, especially cold and fresh water I've been replacing frequently to encourage more drinking.
-Tips of tail feathers appear to be weakening /brittle
- Has not really pooped much, a little bit of discharge (some wet spots on the bedding of the box shes been staying in)

She has been separated from the flock (nobody else has had symptoms) and when I did have her outside supervised for some fresh air, 3 of the others spotted her a bit off and attempted to attack her, no injuries thankfully but the others definitely knew she wasn't 100%. Shes usually near the top of the pecking order, so I'm sure her pride was hurt.

Over the last week we have been doing warm epsom salt baths every other day or so and massaging her crop.
We have also tried a myriad of internet suggestions, but now reaching out to this community for any further recommendations.

We've tried:
- a bit of Gatorade in the water
- a crushed up tum in the water
- Durvet "probiotics daily"

Shes such a sweet girl and was one of my first hens so trying out best to get her feeling better!

I've attached a few photos showing limp comb, tail feathers, bum as of today.. her currently tolerating her epsom salt bath and the last one with background removed was her a few weeks ago - happy and healthy!

Whenever I have a sick chicken, I really try to encourage them to eat and drink. I usually offer them scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit, etc. If you have Nutri- Drench, totally give that to her. Amprolium, too, even if it's not coccidiosis, it helps a lot. I currently have a hen with some of the same symptoms, but she's perking up after adding amprolium to her water, as well as using a dropper to feed her molasses down her beak.

Thank you for the reply! Do you prefer liquid or powder amprolium? Im looking to see if can find it local (never purchased it before).

Will try some other foods too and see if that helps! I have strawberry greek yogurt in the fridge so will give that a shot.

I've used both... the dosing for both is pretty easy. I don't have a strong preference, but the powder is nice, you just have to really mix the water so it doesn't clump.
How's Ellie doing now?

About the same.. curtently relaxed and sleepy eyed in the epsom bath, lol.

There is 10% and 20%, can I go either one? Think I'm going to have to order it online either way but hopefully gets here quickly

By the way, for the powder, I mixed 2 teaspoons with one gallon of water in an empty milk jug, and then just used it to fill up any waterers the sick chicken would drink out of. I also put some directly down her beak using a dropper.

Yup! The difference between them is the concentration of the active ingredient, so you can get either one, the dosings will just be different.

If you wanna try something else while you're waiting for the amprolium to ship... Nutri-Drench is SUPER good, it has like vitamins, minerals, amino acids, stuff like that, and you should be able to find it at a local feed store or tractor supply.

Thank you for checking in! About the same today, maybe a bit more lethargic 😔
She ate a little scrambled eggs last night and made her some fresh ones this morning with some yogurt, but didn't peak much interest.

Amazon dropped off our nutridrench a couple hours and gave her a dose then.. how often do you recommend giving her more?

We keep trying to encourage sips of water too!
Updated photo too
