This is MY FAVORITE chicken, I have dewormed her, permethrin for mites and lice and I clean her butt once a week (soak her in water and scrub her feathers). She’s had pasty butt and walking like a penguin for multiple months now. She has not laid me eggs since she was broody last spring (March 2024), I thought she would start laying again after her hormones wore off from being a mama but she never did. She started getting lethargic about 8 months ago so I quarantined her and treated all my chickens for worms. She has progressively gotten worse looking but not acting worse. She is still a happy chicken makes her happy noises and eats and drinks all the time. I am not sure what she has but I don’t want to lose her, she’s my only chicken that lets me hold her and never runs away I love her and really need help figuring out what to do. Everything I google I end up at a dead end. Her bone in the front of her body sticks out and she waddles when she walks, she no longer dust bathes and doesn’t scratch at the ground with her feet to dig either. Can anyone tell me what’s going on with her and what I can do?

Sorry your hen is unwell. Her comb looks nice and red which is an indicator that laying hormones are present.. as one possibility, I might suspect internal laying, otherwise known as EYP, egg yolk peritonitis.

The fact she's no longer scratching the ground and such is a pretty clear indicator that she's in a fair amount of duscomfort/pain.

Since chickens are prey animals and their own flock may brutalize them.. they are pretty good at hiding symptoms until they no longer can.

Here's an article that discusses the possibility I mention..

Thank you so much! I don’t have any vets around me that accept chickens, I found another thread saying they treated with Nutri-Drench and KOCHI FREE as well as epsomsalt baths and enemas I am going to try this to save my girl! I’m hoping it’s not too late
