Hello. We have a chicken who has been in the house for about a week and a half now. She had worms, and we dewormed her, but also had a gurgle/wet breathing, only mouth breathing. She was very lethargic and underweight. We determined it may be CRD so we gave her 0.8mL oxytetracycline, and another dose after 3 days. Since we brought her in, her breathing has got better, but still wheezes and gurgles sometimes throughout the day. She started drinking regularly, but won’t eat much. Her poop is mostly white/yellow water/mucus, with sometimes small solid green. She is active and preening. She will drink so much water that she will cough/sneeze and be gurgly again. The only thing she will eat is lettuce, and she will only have a leaf or two before she becomes disinterested. She will peck things (but not injest) and be interested, but it seems like she just doesn’t want to eat certain things. She had a bit of egg yolk yesterday, but not very much. Seems like she’ll only drink water. Wondering how to get her to eat, or if there is another problem here. Thank you!

What did you use to worm her, and what dosage? Have you seen any bubbles or foam in her eyes, swelling of the eyes or face, or any nasal drainage?

We used safeguard in her water, and gave her Fenbendazole. No bubbles or nasal discharge or swelling, but another hen that was close to her does have nasal discharge and bubbles in the eyes, which she is also being treated with an injection of oxytetracycline.

Unless you use Aquasol Safeguard, the 10% liquid goat wormer and horse paste are not water soluble and will settle out in the water. So the dosage would be wrong. For round worm dosage is 0.23 ml orally once and again in 10 days, while treatment for other difficult and serious worms, give it for 5 consecutive days orally.

We believe she no longer has worms, and gave her a pill with Fenbendazole a few days ago and will give her another at the 10 day mark, as well as ivermectin on her back initially.
