Hi! This is my first post on BackYard Chickens, I am excited to be apart of the group!
I currently have 17 chickens, they are all ranging from 4-6 months of age. The newest addition are 7 poulets from a lady in my hometown- one chicken did have worms. We contacted the seller and she had us swap out that chicken for a healthy one (looking back we should have stayed far from the farm due to the living conditions)..
Anyways, one of the black chickens presented with a cough, no other symptoms. About 2-3 weeks later one of my bantams fell ill just after she laid her first egg, she was lethargic, had the runs, couldn't keep her eyes open, cough, seemingly gasping for air... Immediately we separated her, put her on antibiotics , used essential oils, VetRX, used a molasses and vitamins mixture treatment- we believed it was a respiratory infection. After attempting everything possible she finally got better...
Our silkie on the other hand fell ill, I noticed she roosted early and was sleeping at 2pm- pulled her from the flock and isolated. she presented with different symptoms, her eye is swollen, we clean it everyday and put eye cream in it, use the essential oils, put vet RX in her eye (read that would help). but her eye would not stop oozing. I'm confident that if she does have the eye still, it is no longer usable. Now she has slowed on eating, I have made her eggs with the shell, oats, rice, etc. and nothing. she is so underweight- her keel is really protruding. We have dewormed her and are justing taking it day by day. I am at a complete loss as to what to do and now my other bantam (the one I just healed) has her left eye starting to swell. The last thing I want is for this to run through my whole flock.
We clean the coop and run out weekly, the run is not small either. We also allow the chickens to free rage the backyard for most of the day just about everyday. Food is not fed on the ground, it fed in a feeder and left out for grazing.
My gut is telling my infectious Coryza? What are thoughts, please help!
