Hi there, I have two chickens who I suspect are sick. The first, Penny, was discovered last Thursday in the coop, disoriented in the corner struggling to stand. Based on her watery-ish droppings and appearance, I've suspected this is coccidosis and so I brought her into our home and set up a little chicken hotel in a dog crate where she's been getting Corrid water, as well as high protein food (tuna, scrambled eggs, blueberries, a little greek yogurt); and is now eating normal organic food. For a few days She has made a seemingly full recovery although I am worried her vision might be off? I tried to reintegrate her to our flock yesterday and it was disastrous - she was immediately attacked and bloodied (something I have not experienced before) so is now back in the house. Today, I noticed a second bird, Mae, having similar symptoms - lethargic and red eyes although she was drinking from a waterer that I had added Corrid to preventatively for our flock.

My question is: what would everyone's take on this illness be? Does this sound like cocci? Could it be something else? Also, do I take the second bird in with the first bird? I only have limited resources here.

Welcome To BYC

Can you post photos of the birds, the eyes and their poop?

How old are they?
What do you feed?

Any lice/mites?

It's not uncommon for a bird that has been separated for a period of time to be bullied and/or attacked when placed back into the flock. The bird has lost it's place in the flock and is viewed as a newcomer.

Have you added new birds to your property within the last 30 days?

I'd focus on hydrating both of them. If you haven't finished the Corid treatment, continue with that. (2tsp Liquid Corid to 1gallon of water for 5-7 days). Otherwise, get some sugar water or electrolytes in them.

Check to make sure crops are emptying.

Not sure about red eyes, is there a strong ammonia smell within in the coop, poor ventilation or have you ever had respiratory illness with in your flock?
