I need some advice:

So I have been treating a small prolapse with my 1 yr old Buff Orpington. Soaking, cleaning, manually replacing the prolapse (3 times total), hydrocortisone cream, probiotics/ electrolytes, secluded in the dark... All the things... Well Her prolapse seems to be better but she laid an egg this morning covered in blood. I realize it's due to the prolapse, but is there anything else I need to be doing treatment wise? I recall finding a bloody egg every once in a while over the last few months but never knew who it was until I saw her egg. It was the same as the other bloody eggs before. But she hasn't had the prolapse until this weekend. So any info and advice would be super helpful and appreciated. Thank you!!

Hello, welcome to the site. Sorry to hear that she is having some prolapse issues. I’m going to link an article written by one of the educators, @azygous about prolapses. The article outlines a really extreme prolapse and how to handle it, but I think it’s very relevant to have this knowledge around for any prolapse and especially for the possibility of her having a worse one in the future:

It sounds like you’re doing all the right things for her, but one other thing I would do is add some calcium citrate plus D3 human vitamin tablets to her treatment regime for a few days. This will help with muscle contractions and retaining tissue. Dosage is about 400mg- 600mg and you’ll want to pull her wattles down (somewhat gently) and just pop the pill in her beak. She will be able to swallow the pill whole without a problem.

Also be sure to watch and check that she isn’t getting vent pecked and that’s leading to the bloody eggs. Sometimes prolapses seem like an invite for flock mates to peck at the tissue or vent.

Thank you so much! I will try that too!
