Sick hen?

Our hen is 4.5 years old. She is acting lethargic, has a floppy discolored comb, and seems to be hunched up. She is eating and drinking a little. She no longer lays. Any ideas?

How cold is it where you live? Mine stand similar to your hen when winter first hits. The comb may be a result of the cold as well. Is the yellow stuff on her beak eggs?

She looks like she is molting. They don’t lay during a molt. How long since she did lay? If it has been awhile she might have a reproductive disorder. The discolored comb could be dehydration, or she may be having heart problems. I would try to tempt her to eat a little better with some moistened chicken feed, plus some soft egg or tuna. Check her crop first thing in the morning to make sure that it is emptying overnight. Also note if she has any enlargement of her lower belly under the vent.
