Hi, i had been wondering about the colors of two of my month old quail, who are both a gray color that i hadn’t seen anywhere in coturnix quail up until I found out about silver and blue quail. I think i found the the answer to my question but i’m wondering about whether i’ve made a mistake.

On another note, what are the differences between silver and blue? I suspect from limited research that they may not both be the same color (one silver, one blue), so i’m wondering what i could look for to confirm that?

Here are the pictures.

It’s hard to tell what flavor of gray youve got just by looking, since the various types of gray dilution genes provide a wide variety of color and patterns, depending on what they’re mixed with. Generally the most common grays will be the schofield silver collection birds. The SSC gene is incompletely dominant, so it passes and spreads quickly. Lavender and blue come from the German pastel collection, I believe. I’m not certain about blue, but lavender is recessive, so both parents need to pass it on to the offspring.

To add a bit of info, I believe blue produces dark legs and silver (SSC) produces light legs, I don’t know about lavender because I’ve never had any. My guess is those birds are SSC.
