Hi all,

This is my first batch of chickens, so I’m still trying to figure things out. My babies are about 10.5 weeks old now. When they were 2 weeks I purchased two additional chicks that I was told were 2 week old pullets. I doubt both of those claims. I don’t know if it’s because they’re older than the others, but I have a suspicion one is a cockerel. I’m keeping either way, but I’d like to know since I planned on purchasing a serama rooster.

Here’s some pictures. Thanks!!

The possible start of a white patch on the shoulder *could* indicate male but Wyandottes are often deceptive.

The girls may redden up early and with one of my girls a couple years ago the white on the shoulders was just bad lacing on a hatchery bird. :)

Within a month you'll be able to tell by the saddle feathers:

You can slide your hand or a piece of paper underneath to better tell the shape of the feather if the pattern is deceptive:

I would give it more time for two reasons:

1. Wyandotte pullets are notorious for pinking up early (mine definitely did).

2. While a full grown silver laced wyandotte hen should have a clear pattern the lacing on all of my laced hens as pullets (including my silver laced wyandotte) was not clear and looked patchy until around when they started laying.

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate the help. Like I said, either way it’s staying here (my chickens are pets with egg benefits), so it’s not a huge deal either way. I can wait and see!
