Hi all,
I am hoping to get 2-3 guinea fowl in a few months to help with bug/ lizard patrol in the yard but am curious how to house them. Getting chickens at same time but they will be in a tractor unless supervised. Tractor also will not have enough room for any more than 3-4 birds as well. I have a couple of thoughts for guinea housing but am unsure which direction to go.
Ideas:
1. We have a large metal shed so I could make a room/ coop for them ( maybe 3x3 and shed is about 15-20 feet tall) inside.
2. I could mount a wooden box cage type thing about 6 feet up on side of shed for them. Would be covered with shed roof.
3. Build a totally new small shed for them ( have left over shed parts). Also could re purpose a cabinet we have in the shed already.

Is there a guideline for more much space per bird free ranging birds need? I have zero interest in collecting eggs so no need to build nest box.

A bit on my area: South Florida, it is really hot and can be very rainy. In terms of predators I know: raccoons, possums, feral cats, hawks, owls.

Thank you!

Guineas are a flock bird and do best with others of their own kind. I never recommend getting fewer than 10 to start. Guineas need much more personal space than do chickens. The minimum recommended clear coop floor space is 4 sq. ft. per adult guinea fowl. Any space required for feeders, waterers, storage and/or hiding places is above and beyond the clear floor space. The recommended coop space is in addition to any run or free range areas.

Guineas are ground dwelling and nesting birds other than when they are roosting. Guineas that are allowed to roost or sit on hidden nests at night can quickly become food for predators.

Good ventilation in the coop is a must.
