All my quail chicks wing feathers have started coming in! One of them has started walking really funny. He squats close to the ground and holds his wings out beside him while he walks. I checked his legs and them seem fine (not slipped hock, no curled toes) so I was thinking maybe his new feathers are uncomfortable for him? Has anyone seen this before?

update: took some pictures

My chicken had something like that and he had to wait it out before he got "used to it..." It might be something more than just a weird wing... What is his/her diet? Any weird foods he/she ate? Any other's acting like that or any other weird signs with him/her? For now I would say to try to wrap the wing, make sure they have the right/good feed specialized for them, and give him/her some extra nutrients/vitamins/minerals/electrolytes in recommended amounts... Hope that helps! :wee

I’m not sure how to attach a video here, but it seems now like he’s begun to limp as well :( His feet aren’t swollen and I didn’t see any wounds though. Maybe it’s a sprain? Sometimes the chicks sleep with their legs stretched out so many one of the others slept on top of it and hurt him?

Mine was limping as well and I had to wrap his wing up, parallel to the other, and give him some extra vitamins, water, and basically re-taught him to walk. It's normal for them to stretch their legs so I don't think that would hurt him if they lay on him.. Is there any possibility he could've got hurt in the brooder? I would think that he's not eating enough or not getting the vitamins and nutrients that he needs from his feed at his age... What's the feed you're feeding him? It may be from his food or his body isn't regulating it correctly... I hope I can help!

Definitely some possibility he could have been injured. They like to take running jumps and I caught a couple of them on top of the heat plate. If he jumped off of it and landed wrong he definitely could have gotten a sprain. He gets purina gamebird starter crumbles and water with probiotic and electrolytes along with all the other chicks. I will look into wrapping it though. Thank you!
