Hi there,

Ever since I got chickens, I've been getting every other week or so, one or several marks on my body (it has happened so far on my arms and on my face). Usually in areas that I don't touch my chickens with. I have been told that I can get ringworm from touching chickens a lot, but it doesn't look like ringworm.

It is small, about 1/4 of an inch, perfectly circular, and reddish-pink, with a tiny pin-prick-sized red dot in the center. It is not raised, and it is not itchy. It went away after a day or two last time, and I just got one again today.

Has anyone ever had this before? What is it caused by? Is there a mite or a fungus that can cause this? My chickens seem perfectly fine, but I want to make sure it isn't something that will cause them harm.

Thanks for reading!

It could be mites. If it were itchy then I would day grey mites ( which are nearly impossible to get rid off) . the red blood sucking mites don't usually bite humans though it is possible, however they don't like our blood and our skin is usually thicker. if your hens are looking anemic or itchy then you should check your coop at night, under the perches in the corners etc for the mites. they can get mites around their necks which depending on who you ask will tell you that they are related to the scaly leg mites and the face ones that they can get, however I'm not to sure on this. I do know that they can get mites in all 3 but if its the same might idk. try looking in the neck feathers for little clearish ones, they are tiny but you can see them with the naked eye. I hope this helps. I know what it looks like I used to get them as well, but ever since I've been spraying out my coop every monthish I haven't had a problem
