Can't stress the importance of ventilation. Rule of thumb is 1sq ft of ventilation per bird.
Ah yes, we live in southeast Texas, so winters are.. pretty much summer still lol. But we plan to install a fan in there at the leastIt does depend a bit on climate. Long winters, with snow,I’d only stick 4 in there.
But warmer climates, chickens only sleep in the coop with decent area to be outside, and you could certainly fit more.
Some chickens don’t play well with others, so less is better. Often, you can get a flock that gets along pretty well, no bullies, and your flock can be bigger.
