So my girlfriend loves to give all our chickens names that are either from movies or goofs on character's names, for example, we had a rooster named Kylo Hen, a starwars joke.

ANYWAY,

We just saw Moana and she fell in love with HeiHei, her rooster.

I of course understand that he is heavily caricatureized, but does anyone have any idea what type of chicken he might be?

The wiki page says he's a bantam rooster. I don't know much about breeds honestly, but isn't that VERY vague? Isn't bantam just a word for a large family of small chicken breeds? We would enjoy inviting our own HeiHei into our large and diverse family. Just wondering if any of you had any insight on exactly what sort of breed would be close to the cartoonized rooster.

Thanks all!

Well...if the movies actually follow along the lines of what's actually in the Polynesian islands (which is where I'm assuming the movie is based, IDK, kids haven't seen it yet lol)... It should be a Red jungle fowl. I found an interesting article on the feral chickens over there, and they do bear a slight resemblance

This.

That looks just like him! I wonder if they wanted the bright yellow legs because Hei Hei spends a lot of time being comically upside down in the ocean with his feet sticking up in the air, and the yellow pops against the blue and is very visually pleasing.

I really enjoyed seeing a chicken sidekick in the movie, and even though the chickens I know are all much smarter than Hei Hei, I liked how (this might be a spoiler) the ocean decides he is special and takes care of him.

@SleepyHollowFnF , I love the idea of naming birds after movie characters.
