Speculating on the Rooster Breed Behind Our New Chicks

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a few hens that were already laying, and it turns out they were exposed to a rooster, because before we knew it, two little chicks hatched (Feb. 7th and 9th)! We know these chicks belong to our silkie hen (see her picture below). Their feathers seem to flare out, and each chick's feather pattern is a bit different.

I’m curious about what breed the mysterious rooster might be. Do you have any insights on which rooster breeds might produce chicks with these characteristics? Any observations or speculations would be greatly appreciated!

The chicks are both frizzles, so the rooster would've had to be, as neither of the hens are. One of the chicks is barred, so the rooster was as well. If I had to hazard a complete guess, I would guess he's a barred frizzle Cochin, just because that's one of the most common frizzled breeds.

It's a barred frizzled rooster, and Cochin is most likely since there aren't a lot of barred breeds that also have frizzling.

Thank you so much for the explanation! I was thinking maybe frizzled, but I wasn't sure if it always shows up with those outturned wing feathers or if it's a trait you can find in other breeds too.

Thanks so much for the info! I had no idea that there aren’t many barred breeds that also show frizzling. I appreciate you sharing that insight!
