For those now who were living in the unincorporated part of East Baton Rouge Parish that is now Part of the City of St George. Something that has not made the news but is important to everyone with backyard chickens is the New city has a revised animal control policy. After months of calls and text between myself, my mom, dozens of other chicken and livestock owners and Councilmen Richie Edmonds and Ryan Heck interim mayor Dustin Yates and City Clerk Lorraine Beaman there has finally been relief for the ridiculous rules concerning chickens (no more than 3 per lot/acre). While the rules itself have not been changed since that would require the change to the parish ordinances. Animal control can no longer investigate anonymous complaints about anything other than animal cruelty or uncontrolled animals. All complains have to include the name and address of the person making the complaint and only people who live within 300ft of the property can make enforceable complaints. As long as your animals are in good health and your neighbors don't have an issue with your animals you should be safe from the overzealous EBR inspectors that had been causing headaches for so many owners.

Selling eggs is also unfortunately still prohibited but in our case, we "exchange" eggs and goats milk with our neighbors in exchange for kitchen scraps for our animals. Keeps all the neighbors happy and our chickens and goats love the additions to their diets.
