This weekend and next week I will be setting mandarin, and call duck eggs, plus some silkies. Would it be okay if for the first week or so I stack the eggs on top of eachother till the other incubator empies up some? They will be going into a hovabator 1588 forced air?

I have done it in a pinch, but stupid me, didn't mark them in any particular way that stood out so I could see how they developed or if they hatched. I think they did fine, I usually do great right up until lockdown. Most of my failures are didn't pip or pipped and died kinda things. I need a refresher course in humidity I think. I went from hatching all in one bator last year in a forced air to hatching in a still air LG that I use just for hatches this year - still working out the kinks and differences..... But, I think you would probably be ok - I have seen lots of others on here do it and have great hatches. Best wishes!

Yah my hatches did not turn out to well when I did it either:-( The top eggs seem to get overcooked because of being closer to the heating element:-(

Did you have a forced air or still air?

still air:-( But I moved the eggs around everyday so they would no stay in one place the whole time--luckily I put my eggs on the top because I knew if they didnt make I could always get mroe real quick-I wasnt chancing eggs I bought or swapped LOL

Okay. This is a forced air, so the temp should be the same in all spots of the bator. Still air temps get hotter, the higher up you go in the incubator. Its either stack the eggs, or toss all of the eggs. I will stack them and see what happens. I have so many call duck eggs, several dozen, since the girls are laying like crazy, lol.

I did it with my Brinsea O20 for a week. They were shipped eggs though so there's no trusting the results. Also, the power went out for an unspecified amount of time one day that week. So I'm curious to hear how yours do. I do still have some of those developing, though.

I know someone who routinely double-stacks a Brinsea O20 and swears it's fine. He uses another bator as a hatcher. He even made special walls to help keep them in place while using the autoturner.

well that makes me smile then!!! stack away sister then ship those extras to me!!! LOL...

I stack them all the time and they do just fine. I usually have staggered hatches, and as I candle them and toss the bad ones, the stacked ones get a spot in the turner. Also as day 18 comes, those go into the hatcher, which leaves slots for the stacked ones. I use a Genesis 1588.
