Hello there! I just acquired a group of standard Indian game. 3 whites and 7 darks. The White rooster is 2 years old and he’s quite the rooster he’s got to be close to 20lbs by feel. My question is has anyone had issues with standards having leg issues from being too large? I’ve noticed that his legs shake a bit but he’s also been in a large run with the rest of the group so he’s been exerting himself quite a bit so I wonder if I should put him in a smaller coop to keep him from having any leg issues. From what I know of his history he was kept in a breeding pen and not free ranged but I could be wrong.

@MysteryChicken

To me, it looks like he has SLM, which may be contributing to the tremors.
I wonder if he has some Gout too, hopefully MysteryC will chime in with her thoughts/suggestions.

For SLM, apply oil, vaseline or Nustock cream to the legs to smother the mites. Apply a couple of times a week for a month, then see how they look .

A mild case of scaly leg mites. I don't see indicators of gout though. He just has fat legs.

He’s a big guy for sure with very thick legs. I will definitely get on with treating the scaly leg. I find in the morning when I let them out he doesn’t have any tremors but when I get home from work after he’s been out chasing hens and foraging all day he has some tremors. I’ve never had this breed before so I don’t know if he just needs to get use to being able to run around more or if he should be penned up and gradually allowed to forage.

I’m also trying to get his weight down a little bit by not giving the group feed until after work so they have to search for forage during the day then they get topped up in the afternoon if they are still hungry.

Glad you will start treating the SLM.

With tremors starting later in the day, I'd consider giving him B-Complex daily for a few weeks, see if that helps. He's a big guy, so I'd give him a whole tablet once daily.

I’ll definitely get him on the Vitamin B complex as well. I didn’t notice tremors yesterday but I’ll still give him some just to rule anything out.
