Hi Y'all
I have a stray chicken we are nursing back to health. She was obviously attack and is healing nicely. A teenage hen. She is in the house for continuous observation. Unfortunately, this also led to a molt of her down. Ugh. It's going to be a couple months before she she will be integrated into the flock fully. We are working on recognition now.

Ok. How long can she be outside without this protective feather layer? And does anyone have any ideas about potty training????? I'm worried because she did loose an eye in her trauma and she isn't good at instincually scanning w her good eye I have noticed.

Yes
I'm worried she may not be an outside bird. That's ok. Just gotta figure this poo patrol out

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated

For the poo situation. Chickens(and other avians) don't really bowel control, so I'm really sorry, but she can't be potty trained. There are avian diapers though. I heard one user joke about using an old sock with leg holes cut out, so maybe that's worth a shot. If you do try it please post a picture, I kind of want to see how it turns out. Its so crazy, it might just work!:gig

Omg. That's hilarious but just might work!!!! I will admit to putting diapers on her. We keep emergency pack for any animal that becomes incontinent while healing. Guilt!!! Ok. Thanks. I will let you know. Oh the diapers worked mechanically but she wouldnt walk w it on.

Yeah, I really hope it does! Only problems I see are the sock needing to be cut down to size and the sock staying in position over the cloaca but hopefully the sock's elasticity takes care of that.:fl Best of luck!
