We had a 2 year old goat that wasn’t over or underweight and was very bred. She never showed true signs of labor, became slightly slower the last few days but was still eating and drinking and then died this afternoon. She never had discharge, never showed signs of labor. She was fully vaccinated. Was this ketosis? Did we miss something? We feel terrible. Her hair coat was fine, she never had neurological symptoms. Her milk hadn’t come in and her vulva wasn’t swollen.

ur probably correct, i think it was ketosis, i kind of want a pic of her to see her weight but i understand if you dont want to do that, compare her weight to the weight of goats that youve had pregnant in the past. if she was a first freshener it might have been complications, or an infection, that you cant see. sorry for ur loss, and i hope this helps

I have seen goats with ketosis never go into full labor. The cervix will dilate but there are no contractions. If you put your hand in you will feel a dilated cervix and you can pull the kids out with no issues. It has been so many years I cannot remember now what gave me the clue that this was what was happening.
