I have a silkie whose earlobe is severely swollen. It seems to be only the earlobe though. There doesn’t seem to be any discharge from the ear canal itself only the severely swollen lobe. Any advice on treatment?
It looks like there's a scab, so I would suspect the earlobe has become infected.
If you have vet care, that's always best, but often they are very expensive, and most do not treat poultry.
If she were mine, I'd clean the earlobe with chlorhexidine, then remove the scab, see if there's pus underneath that needs to be removed. Warm compresses may be helpful.
Clean the area again and apply triple antibiotic ointment.
The others may have better suggestions, so be sure to check your thread for any additional posts.
Good advice from Wyorp Rock. Have you checked her for mites and lice? Note any discharge on the QTip from the ear. Note if she is scratching her ear. Also, another chicken may have pecked her causing the scab and swelling. You are the best person to figure it out.
