Here I go… asking weird questions again… can a hen’s ankles swell in the heat like a person’s can?
These first 2 pics are of Ash (and her ginormous feet). Ash is a 7 month old Orpington. Her dad had big feet. Her mom has big feet. Ash has HUGE feet.
But yesterday, while making my rounds serving the chickens their cool-down cocktails (take a moment to picture me delivering poultry cell water in champagne flutes on a silver platter in a suit w/ tails like some kind of maître d’ or butler visiting all the flocks to encourage hydration
) I noticed her feet looked almost swollen. I felt around and it all felt normal although her ankles were a little puffy. In the morning they were less puffy, but seem to have puffed up again as the day, and the heat, has gone on. Do her legs look concerning?
I went back through older photos to see if her legs have always been this large, and I did find this pic of her standing next to her mom from about a month ago, and you can tell her legs are larger. So maybe this is just how she’s built. Like a meatball.
There is otherwise nothing wrong with Ash. No symptoms or concerns.
