We've used broodies before for chicks we were keeping, and I've sold a bunch over the years that were hatched in an incubator and placed in a brooder, but I've never sold chicks that were with a broody. It's hard for me to sell chicks, just because I worry about them. But I'm in the midst of a years long breeding project and I have to try to rehome more, sooner, for feed costs and space reasons.
So right now we have 5 out of 13 to potentially rehome and I'm struggling. They have 2 broody moms lovingly caring for the whole bunch. If I take some of their chicks away won't it stress the moms out? How will the babies adapt to artificial brooding at their (potential) new home? How much will it break their teeny tiny hearts to be ripped away from their families?
How can I do this to them?
