I need to know if there are any problems with raising tame turkeys in an area where there are a lot of wild turkeys? Will the tame ones interact with wild ones? Will they still go back to the coop at night if free ranged?

I asked the same question basically, and what i was told, was that if your turkeys are really well imprinted on you and your property they wont wander far. and if the wilds come close, yours will go closer to home. But safety issues can arise if they do interact much. spread of disease and such. I have one gal and i have heard the toms close to home...

Thanks for the response. I have a lady interested in some turkey eggs I'm hatching.
And there are a lot of wild turkeys around her home.
The eggs were given to me and I know very little about turkeys.

There are more then FIFTY wild turkeys that will walk around some times in my backyard in the winter and spring, they seem to be attracted to my toms gobbling, they never get more then 200 yards to my turkeys, but I did hear of someone who's turkeys were KILLED by wild turkeys, but I'm thinking that's rare.

I have three young "mutt" turkeys that I bought last fall. I live in an area that has some wild turkeys in the area, but no resident birds on my property. My turkeys have attracted turkeys to my property. I have had a couple of gobblers come pretty close, but not reveal themselves. Yesterday I had a wild hen walk through the yard. Nebraska actually has a race of what's called hybrid wild turkeys. They are a cross of Narragansett and Eastern Wild Turkeys. They can look like Eastern or Merriam wild turkeys and are usually much larger than pure bred wild turkeys. A hybrid tom can go close to 30 lbs., while a pure bred wild tom will be 16 to 20 lbs. My turkeys are kept in a hoop coop right now, so they have had no interaction other than vocal with any wild turkeys. I do plan on fencing in about 3/4 of an acre for my turkeys later this summer. we'll see then if we have any wild visitors.
