Hey all, I have a mismatched group of hens. 2 raised since hatching and about 9 months old, 2 new 9 month olds added yesterday and on 10 week old pullet that I keep separating during the day but she sleeps with the older birds at night. Temps are forecasted to drop into the teens tonight. Would you add a heat lamp or no? I sure don't like the idea of a fire and I feel that birds are adapted for cold temps.

What do you all know?

Size of coop?
Breeds of birds?
General location? Humidity also matters.

Pics of coop inside and out would help determine if your set up is adequate.
It's about 4x5x4' with 2 roosting levels. I conducted it out of osb. It's elevated off the ground about 2'. The nights are calm and our humidity is around 75% tonight. No pics.

Wait, here is one pic, they roost in the upper coop

No.

Might want to get a heated waterer tho.
...and make sure they have adequate ventilation in the coop.

Do they olders pick on the 10wk old during the day?

Oh, and... Welcome to BYC! @Giesend
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.

Thanks! I have the water heater, just need to set it up. I'm in Grand Junction Colorado. Desert on the western slope, near Moab if you are familiar. I will certainly set that up on my account.

And yes, they do pick on the 10wk old bird still. I still have the run separated and give the young one her own space during the day. We've had her for 3weeks now, I'm hoping to be able to fully integrate soon.
