Hi all-

does anyone know, or can anyone link me to where I can figure out terramycin powder dosages in teaspoon?

I figured the flock dosage down to 19mg/4oz H20 to treat my two chicks....

However I have NO way to measure out the 19 mg...anyone figure out how many teaspoons this would be...or have any of your own meathods of measure.

I DONT want to mix gallons at a time since I have 2 chicks 4-8 oz of water is all I want to be mixing up.

Thanks in advance!

Okay.

Do you have the recipe for making 1 gallon? (or some other known quantity)

As I see it, their recipe goes X parts medicine per Y parts water, and you simply wish to reduce that by some percentage.

Using dry measure (teaspoons, tablespoons, dry measuring cups) how much does their recipe worth of meds measure?

Now how much are you trying to reduce this recipe by?

I'm gonna use a powdered drink example:

The packet says it'll make 1 liter of beverage and the powder in the packet is 1/4 cup (dry), problem is, I only want 1/4th of that!

1/4 cup is equal to 12 teaspoons... so divide my recipe by 4... and I'd need to only add 3 teaspoons to my 1/4 liter.

Here's a link to an online conversion calculator... use the "cooking" ones to help you with this problem.

I believe the correct dose is 1/2 teaspoon per quart of water. Some people do 1 teaspoon, but I don't.

ETA: Found my notes....

4tsp per gallon of water for 4 day's
2tsp per gallon of water for 2 day's

1/2 teaspoon per quart of water for 7 to 10 day's.

I would mix it by the quart and put what I don't use in the fridge for the next change of water. It needs to be changed every 8 hrs.

water ratios wasnt a prob. I already got to 1/8 a gal equalling 2 cups or 16 oz. Thats not the prob.

Just needing to know how to actually convert 20 mg to teaspoons.

I read somewhere on here 1 to 1.5 teaspoons terramycin to 1 gal so I settled on slightly rounded 1/8 tsp per 1/8 gal (2 cups) I spilled some powder while mixing and one of my chicks ate the crumbs. Geez, if I knew I could just put it in a dish and feed it to her!... course its knowing how much to actually give. I know she wont drink 2 whole cups of water in a day so how much meds is she actually getting this way?

How do I know how much of the water they will actually drink- how can we tell they are getting enough meds? I just assume syringe feed her the meds to know she's getting them.

I just have 2 chicks with some sneezing but acting fine eating fine. I just want to be cautious as I love them and don't want anything to progress. All these posts on chicks dying makes me sad- rather catch it before they become sick.
