So I am dating a city boy. Me being a farm girl, well, I was worried. At first, he was skeptical about the chickens. More than willing to help me move cages and sorrowing with me when any losses occurred, but not all that willing to pet them or interact with them more than feeding and general care. Which is fine by me. The birds are mine, and I didn't ask for more than tolerance of them.
Well, I introduced him to chicken math, and he has been bitten by the chicken bug. I showed him Indio gigante chickens, and he said we needed to get some. I wanted to call his bluff, so found some chicks nearby, and told him about them. Immediately, he told me we could go right then and that he had the money in his pocket. We didn't go that day, but we got the two chicks. Along with three others the breeder stuck in as living heat packs. He asked why she would do that, and I explained the only way I could. Chicken math.
He was visiting over the weekend, and he told me that he wants to possibly get into breeding the gigantes, and I reminded him that we don't know the genders of the two we have now yet. So he hopped online and found a trio of slightly older babies with one looking pretty male and the other two looking female. We go pick them up on Saturday. He already has such big (no pun intended) plans for them, from building them a larger cage to the coop he wants to construct. I'm still going to be keeping my regular size chickens, but it looks like we are also going to have a flock of giants roaming the yard like velociraptors.
