Lakeside, Oregon
Some folks have asked for pictures of our yard. For those who don't know, we bought a double lot with NOTHING growing on it but one small shore pine. The lot that we got used to be the town train station, so we have no soil...we have rocks...of all sizes...and sand. Lots of green stuff that's a mix of 'whatever grew' grasses, weeds, and a myriad of small plants. We have no plans to disturb the whatever-lawn, which has lots of tiny flowers here and there that we can't as yet identify. I have hand-sown many bags of white clover, both to add nitrogen to the soil and to help out bees and other pollinators. We do not use, nor do we plan to use, pesticides. Where possible we will plant native plants.
This last weekend, we had a nursery from a nearby town (Lakeside is very small) bring in 4 actual trees...a red alder, a Norway spruce, a pinus 'gem' a cedar deodora 'electric blue' and a corkscrew willow. As of today, we have 13 raised beds, filled with good soil, and added a semi-dwarf crab apple, a raspberry bush, and a dwarf apple tree. There are several fig trees around the yard, and my partner, NewBoots, has planted greens, garlic, several types of blueberries, lingonberries, gooseberries, currants, while I'm putting in Jerusalem artichokes, potatoes (3 kinds), sweet potatoes, and I have 2 smaller raised beds by the street for nothing but wildflowers and other flowers. Here are some pictures!

Wow looks great! I saw in your other thread that you will be starting the coop soon. Where will it go?
The coop/run (I'm calling it the habitat!) goes here, in this picture. It will parallel the back fence and face the back of the house. You can just barely see some of the stakes - that's NewBoots standing there. I said, "Stand so people can see where the habitat will be." And that's Trouble, the little mostly-grown kitten who was so insistent about adopting us that we finally gave in. Now one of his sub-titles is "Garden Cat - He Who Oversees the Yard".
