Well...we started with 9 Lavender Orpingtons and 9 Isa Browns..until one day or several days..our hens went MIA. A live trap produced a opossum..not the killer. Another time, a wild cat...maybe, but then we saw a hawk!!!!?? Could be...every few days more went a miss.

Fast forward..down to 5!! My friend had 2 roosters beating each other up so she offered me one. I said sure..

He was the outcast, so my friend gave us 2 of his ladies ..that worked! They free ranged happily and slept well together. Weird thing...the chicken thief stopped. No sign of feathers from missing ones either.

So we hatched a few that we will add to the flock..and another 18 in the incubator 🤞

Glad the rooster helped. They can be good at being a lookout, and alarm calling which helps the hens get back to safety. He's gorgeous too.
