There is a note "If it is a general post about you and/or your chickens, post it in the social sections" - I think this question is specific. I hope I am posting in the right forum for this question.

I am very green at chickens like I said in my intro so please pardon the stupidity of my questions. If we only have chickens for eggs and not for breeding do we move the rooster out of the coop?

Some of our eggs have red spots. Those are fertile right? If we had left them there they would have become chicks... we may want chicks later but not today. We are thinking we should avoid the red spots for like when we give extra eggs away.

TIA.

No the red spots are from some of the tissue in the oviduct sloughing off.

The little white spot on the yolk is where you look to see if they're fertile. If it is a dot it isn't fertile, if it is a circle it is fertile.
There's no difference between a fertile and non-fertile for eating. A fertile egg won't become a chick unless you incubate or the hen sits on it for 21 days.
A fertile egg won't begin to develop unless kept very warm and consistently.

Keep the rooster with them, he'll protect them from predators.

X2 I keep two roosters in my laying flock for added protection from birds of prey. They dutifully sound the alarm if something suspicious flies over. I also like how they take the hens to the dust bathing spots and prompt them to eat tidbits they've found.
