Thoughts on feeding chicks scrambled eggs

I give mine scrambled eggs daily. I personally don't give grit, but they get sand and dirt to mess with in the brooder.

It generally takes about 3 times before chicks go nuts for the eggs so keep at it. They help them grow faster, and they make them tame.

By energy... eggs are 34% protein and 64% fat.

They are loaded with other nutrients too. I consider them okay to use as a treat. Grit not required as they are soft. My birds also access the ground or if chicks are indoors, I bring a plug of grass and dirt in for them.

Access to grit from a young age has been shown to help develop the gizzard better.

My chicks go absolutely wild for it. It's good as a healthy-ish treat but I really wouldn't spoil them with it. My four ~4-week-old chicks get a little less than half a boiled egg per day and even then I might be pushing it a little. I'd also try boiled eggs as it's more convenient, and my chicks seem to like it better, but that's just me personally.

As a supplement to a balanced feed ration there's no problem. I take a different approach to the first 6 months after hatching. I believe to get the best possible bird they really can not have an excess of protein. They are growing at a phenomenal rate. Its possible to see a day to day difference.

I feed 24% game bird starter, supplement with 36% crushed catfish chow and give them soured milk to drink instead of water for the first 6 weeks. Never had a problem with legs or anything else for that matter. I hatch over 200 chicks a year. I lose less than 1% to deaths in the brooder.

I crack an egg in a bowl, scramble, cover with a paper towel, microwave for 30 seconds. Let cool, squish up and serve. Much easier than boiling eggs for me.

My flock goes crazy over scrambled eggs!!!
For my layers, I boil my bantam eggs and crush the eggs, egg shell and all and feed them. My chicks get scrambled eggs without the eggshells.

Chicks love scrambled eggs. All of mine have had eggs at one time or another. Grit was only given if feeding greens or anything else than chick feed. But I think they are pretty good at taking grit free choice too.
