I've been looking around for some low-cost USDA-Organic convenient feed options.
Looking online I found "Kalmbach Organic Harvest Omegga Layer Pellets Chicken Feed" on Chewy. It is fairly inexpensive at about ~1 USD per pound.

Have any of you tried it with your chickens? What are your thoughts?
I haven't really used anything other than Nutrena. Is there anything I need to look out for?

It seems to be highly regarded. But I take personal offense to you saying "It is fairly inexpensive at about ~1 USD per pound."

Haha. I suppose expensive versus inexpensive is different for every person, but $50 for a 50 pound bag of feed would give about 90% of chicken owners a heart attack.

@paneubert I currently spent about 70¢ per lb for organic feed.
Non organic is about 40¢ per lb. Feed is expensive.
Plus feed stores are never close in my experience. Chewy ships to your door.

I've been trying to sell the eggs and people seem to like the whole "Organically Fed" deal.

I pay about 60-70¢ per pound for organic so that sounds about right. I wonder if the $1 per pound is because they roll in shipping cost as well, or do you still pay shipping on top of that?

I assume you're not organic certified so do make sure to be specific when selling your eggs, that they're not actually organic.

Shipping is free on orders over 49. Plus many times you can find coupons and such for shipping.

I understand. I find it super annoying when people try to sell organic stuff without certifications. Besides, if I understand correctly many popular chicken breeds aren't non-gmo.

I will feed my flock nothing BUT Kalmbach. :) Call me a snob, but no other brand is up to snuff. Purina, Nutrena, Country Road, ect. have all smelled musty (in comparison) and/or contained mold clumps. I'd say the scent of Kalmbach's feed brings to mind bread....even blueberry muffins. Let's just suppose a certain someone got curious about the corresponding flavor - tasted pretty good to me. ;) Next to no powdery excess, either.

While Kalmbach organic pellets/crumbles became too expensive for us at some point, they were a huge hit. Now we go with non-GMO. :) The flock relishes it all.

Just a disclaimer, this particular feed may seem exceptionally fresh to me because we live near their main plant. Straight off the press.

Well thank you! You solved a mystery for me it does taste as nice as it smells.
Really the only chicken food iv'e ever wondered about but it is also one of the few that didn't smell like a basement.:)

 I simply couldn't resist. ;) The flavor reminded me of something one should be eating for breakfast, with a little maple syrup. Oatmeal, maybe? :drool

Definitely agree that it smells rather scrumptious when compared to other brands. :p

I agree I like all Kalmbach feeds. I used the Organic Kalmbach for a few months & liked it. Keep in mind I paid $28.99 for a 40 lb. bag. Their organic comes in 40 lb. bags. This price was actually higher than 2 other organic feeds I use, because it was special order. The price on Chewy is ridiculous, but that is because it has to be shipped.
