I was just curious if anyone's tried this method on a tractor? I'm currently using 2 modified trailer Jack's which work ok but am interested in making life a little easier. Anyway the design looks interesting if those hinges can take the abuse 🤔

That are some kind of locking 90 degree hinge

Unless that caster plate ends up underneath the 2x4 when bracket is flipped down for use, all the load is passing through the screw hardware on the side of the 2x4 - a bad design for moving heavy loads across potentially bumpy terrain.

I made a tractor for our old rabbit and it used the same size pneumatic tires - PITA to move around on grass with that small of a diameter wheel and a decent weight load.

A design using larger diameter wheels, such as bicycle tires would be a better choice IMO, I’ve got a garden cart with bike tires and that thing smoothly moves heavy loads across my property.

If you search the internet you’ll see some coop wheel designs that are mounted on a steel lever, that swings to engage wheels and lever handle locks into position. IMO this is a good design choice for mounting bike wheels as the connection and pivot can be made to be heavy duty.

Good luck!

Got a pic of what you are using now?

You mentioned trailer jacks - one of the better tractor designs I’ve seen online used four trailer jacks with casters on them to lift and roll the coop

The trouble with my setup is the wheels rotate and not in the same direction, sometimes I can muscle through and the wheel will turn the way I need it to but sometimes I have to lower the jack and reset the wheels. Initially I thought about tying the wheels together with a 1/2 piece of threaded rod but I don't think it would hold up under stress.

Those look like really nice lift casters you have on there! Not familiar with how those particular ones operate, but if the wheels swivel by having the inside tube rotate, you may be able to modify things by simply drilling a hole through the tubes so you can use a locking pin, to lock them from rotating.
