I just noticed today while holding one of the baby goats that they have lice. Well what I assume is lice I looked up on the internet and they looked the same. Anyway I was wondering what do you use to treat lice on them? I read about a couple of different things but it didnt really list if it was safe for the young babies who are about 2 weeks old. So do you know of something that would be safe for them and effective. Thanks in advance

Hey,

I am in the middle of a Mite infestation. Per my Vet, and my research I'm using ivermectin. We are injecting the adults by weight dosage. The babies get nothing until they are 2 weeks old, then they get ivermectin paste, only 1/4 of an inch, then a second dose 2 weeks later. They are way way too small and young for any type of injectible ivermectin unless you can obtain some really small insulin syringes...even then the needles would have to still be the nice large ones because of the thickness of the skin, and the solution.

The ivermectin treatment for the mites on the adults is pretty extreme because of the type of mites I've got, it's a 4 week regimen, plus a total clean out of the barn. I also have to do all the chickens and the coops as well.

You may not have to go quite so far if it's just lice.

Good luck!

Ivermectin. Vet said same dosage as swine, it's on the bottle. It helped my goats but you do have to redose at 2 weeks and 4 weeks to kill off eggs and nymphs

I checked everyone and the adults dont seem to have any I wormed them with the ivermectin the day they kidded maybe thats why or maybe im just not seeing them and they are there. Anyway the babies have them bad I can see alot of lice and alot of eggs mostly on their head and along the spine. I did dust them with kitten flea powder today not very much though as I wasnt sure how safe it was to use. It doesnt seem to be helping though, does anyone know if CyLence or durasect will be safe to use on the babies now? I was looking at ordering a few different things and those were a couple of lice treatments I ran across.
