I have read to use 10% bleach to water solution to kill roundworms and roundworm eggs in the yard. If I do that how long should I wait till I let the ducks in the yard?
Also sprinkle cayenne pepper in there food. Any thought or experience please.
One of my dogs had roundworms. The other did not but was treated for prevention. The duck do not have it but I don't want them to get it.

Hi.

Why are you not using food grade Diatomaceous Earth instead of bleach?
...You can even mix it to your ducks' food to worm them...

(Actually... honest question : do you know if you are even allowed to spray bleach in your yard?)

You could also put one tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar per liter of water, in a PLASTIC waterer (do not put Vinegar in a metal one!)...?
Just for one day should suffice...

...Good luck!

Read through that. I don't know if this product is available to the public yet, but it might be worth looking into. The article also mentions other ways to sterilize the soil that won't harm animals and humans but it's work.

But trying to get rid of these critters in the soil going to be pretty futile since they are as much a component of soil as oxygen is to air. The simpler option would be regular worming with Safeguard in the water and save yourself a lot of effort.

I wouldn't bother to treat the dirt.
Cayenne Pepper won't do anything.

I have never had to deal with this before. That is why I asked in this form. You know certain food grade Diatomaceous Earth will kill roundworms and is safe for ducks?
I don't know anything about using bleach in the yard that is what i was told to do for the dogs to keep them from getting it. We have not had any parasite issues in the past 9 years. We've always had ground hogs, squirrels, bunnys, skunks, foxes, voles, mice in the yard throughout the years. This year a Farrell cat and her kittens decided to hangout here also and i think they brought the parasites. Does it have to be apple Cider Vinegar or will distilled be ok? I put distilled in their plastic pool to prevent mosquitoes. They have ceramic water dishes.

Hi.

Of course. You are learning as you go...!

You know certain food grade Diatomaceous Earth will kill roundworms and is safe for ducks?

Well... yes : every food grade Diatomaceous Earth will kill roundworms and are safe for ducks.
It will even feed the ground...!

Just... be careful to put a mask when using DE - really just in case.

And use it in your yard a sunny day (or at least when you know it is not going to rain), so it is 100% effective in killing roundworms!

I don't know anything about using bleach in the yard that is what i was told to do for the dogs to keep them from getting it.

I would not recommend it, for several reasons - one of them being it could be illegal to use bleach in your yard. (?)

I also would not use chemical products when efficient natural ones exist, and are at least as effective as them.

And if your ducks eat the insects/slugs/grass sprayed with food grade DE, they at least won't be hurt by it (at the contrary)!

You are not lucky... and you are not at fault.

Even wild birds could be the cause of an infestation...

There is nothing you could do to prevent it... in your ground at least!
Indeed : in my experiences with chickens (my ducks have never had worms, so I can not tell), if you regularly feed food grade DE to your birds and/or put Apple Cider Vinegar in their water, they should not get infested by worms or whatever parasites...!

(Besides, DE is good for them. So you don't lose anything by trying it, right...?)

From what I have found by searching on the internet - just now, because I had never heard about "distilled vinegar" before... yes : "distilled vinegar" should be okay to use!

...Good luck!

Thank you so much.

No to bleach
No to pepper
No to DE

These will not be effective.

Yes to Safeguard / Fenbendazole (dose the chickens directly)
Yes to Albendazole (dose the chickens directly)
